4.11A: Test properties of soil including texture, capacity to retain water, and the ability to support life.
4.10A/ 4.11B/5.11A: Identify and observe actions that require time for changes to be measurable including growth, erosion, dissolving, weathering, and flow.
Science Court – Soil
Students learn these scientific concepts:
· What plants need to grow
· The inorganic and organic materials that make up soil
· The roles soil plays in aiding plant growth
· How worms make the soil better for plant growth.
Students learn in hands-on activities to:
· Separate into layers the different types of materials that make up soil
· Test how well water moves, or percolates, through soil
· Observe how worms mix layer of soil
· Test how well plants grow in different types of soil.

Texture
Erosion
Students will work in groups of 4 playing the part of a court side commentator. They will break into groups to discuss the trail and 6 questions to check for understanding. Students will answer part 1 and 2 in their C.S.I notebooks.
